Help will NOT automatically display after Purchase and Activation. If you are like most people your time is very limited and valuable, so we designed Equity Quotes with this in mind. Equity Quotes' sole purpose is to allow the user to graphically analyze stock market data, both fundamental and technical.
FOR FIRST TIME USERS: it is recommended that you open the end of day quote file "New.ddq". Then, add a ticket symbol in the Symbol Box (upper left had corner), and select the Add Symbol button. This will access the historical quote data from the web and save the data to the location to the quote database folder selected during setup. Next, select Graphics from the Main Menu to graph the data. Note, fundamental data is not obtained from historical data, but future updates will obtain fundamental data.
The are several end of day (EOD) quote files already built. For example the AMEX, NASDAQ, and NYSE already exist; however, the historical data is not in your database. If you wish, you may combine these files from the Main Menu "Edit". To access the historical data (10 years of data for 10,000 stocks) and save to the database will take approximately 2-4 hours using DSL at 3.0 Mb/s, so this process should be run at a convenient time. Ten Years of data for 10,000 stocks consumes approximately 0.7 GB of hard drive storage. Before running this process, please make the decision on where this data will be stored. We recommend using Windows Explorer to create a folder on you C or other another hard drive called "Quotes". Then select Help from the Main Menu, and run Set Up Wizard again and on Step 4 (Connect LAN), select the folder you just created. Now you are ready to populate your quote database, so you may begin utilizing Equity Quotes' superb end of day graphics. To populate the database, select File from the Main Menu, and select populate database.
Next, you can set up Equity Quotes to automatically update the database each day after market close. To perform this function you will need to utilize Windows Scheduled Tasks. Simply set up Windows Scheduled Tasks to open Equity Quotes about 30 minutes after the markets close; for example 4:30 pm. Next, select Settings from the Main Menu. Then select Application and the Data Settings Tab. In the "Automatic Data Collection" section to the right, select Auto Run - EOD, and set the time. If Windows Scheduled Tasks is set to open Equity Quotes at 4:30 pm, you should set Auto Run - EOD to begin updating quotes at 4:35 pm. Then you will always have fast access to the latest data.
HOWEVER, you may begin immediately using the real time quotes features. To open a real time quote file, select "File" from the Main Menu. Then select "Open Quotes File", and select Real Time. Note: Yahoo currently has reverted to provide quotes with a 20 minute delay. However, those with a Fidelity Brokerage account may access quotes without delays (Fidelity Brokerage Account and Logon Required).
Note: To graphically display Earnings, Earning Estimates, Sales, PEG, PE, PS, etc., daily updates must be performed. This fundamental data will be stored in the quote database for future use.
A quote file is a file that contains a list of ticker symbols. There are two types: end of day (EOD) and real time (RT). An EOD file has the extension ".ddq" and at RT file has the extension "rtq". These files are located in the "Data" folder under the "Equity Quotes" folder. These files may be edited with notepad, but make sure you have a back up before editing the file.

The files in the quote database have extensions like "07" to refer to calendar year 2007. These to can be edited with notepad.
